Revision of in-game, narrative, marketing, and legal content for a multilayered narrative-driven survival game

Context
This multi-year collaboration involved revising the Italian localisation of a survival game built around exploration, resource management, crafting systems, and immersive narrative content. The game combined system-driven gameplay (items, crafting recipes, UI elements, survival mechanics) with story-driven elements such as character diaries, lore documents, and in-game logs.
I joined the project as a reviser, reviewing translations produced by a small team of Italian linguists across multiple releases and updates.
Challenge
Because the game evolved incrementally and involved several contributors over time, inconsistencies began to surface. The same item or gameplay element was sometimes translated differently across builds, creating potential confusion for players. Tonal shifts between texts also risked breaking immersion, particularly in narrative-heavy sections such as diaries and lore documents.
The translation memory contained legacy entries and conflicting terminology, which increased the risk of inconsistencies resurfacing in future updates and made the localisation and revision process more time-consuming.
Approach & outcome
My work focused on reviewing existing content, correcting inconsistent terminology, and aligning recurring gameplay elements across releases. Early in the collaboration, I cleaned and consolidated the translation memory to remove outdated or conflicting entries, simplifying both ongoing translation and revision workflows.
This resulted in a more coherent and maintainable Italian localisation, with consistent terminology, tone, and player-facing messaging across all gameplay and narrative content.
